Tricolor Beech

(Fagus Sylvatica Var. ‘roseomarginata’)

Location: These trees are beside the No. 8 tee and behind the No. 8 green.

Tree information: A native European tree long cultivated (since at least the 1800s).  Has an edible nut.

Size: Can reach 50 to 60’ with equal spread.

Growth rate: slow, usually a foot per year.

Foliage description: White Variegated margins with red to pink shade and a green or occasionally more purple inner leaf.  Can appear like a stained-glass window when backlit in the morning. The darker red colors show best with more acid soils.



USDA hardiness zone: 4 to 7. Can sunburn and crenate in extreme heat and drought.

Provenance: Green Valley Nursery.  Planted in 2012.
