Fernleaf Beech

(Fagus Sylvatica Var. ‘asplenifolia’)

Location: The labeled tree is left of the beginning of  No. 16 fairway.

Tree information: This ‘cut leaf beech’ is a cultivar of the European Beech, has unusually graceful habit when grown.

Size: 50’ to 60 ‘tall.

Growth rate: Slow, similar to Fagus sylvatica.

Foliage description: Typical underlying Beech leaf morphology but with ‘cuts’ giving the plant a fernlike appearance.



USDA hardiness zone: 4-7

Provenance: Grown by Handy Nursery in Boring, OR and purchased from Birch Creek Garden Company.  Planted in 1994.
