Amur Cork Tree

(Phellodendron Amurense)

Location: Left of No. 3 fairway near the 150 yard marker.

Tree Information: In addition to being the source of Huang Bo (one of the 50 fundamental herbs of Chinese medicine) the plant is used as a street tree widely. In Greek, the name literally means cork tree. “Phello” refers to cork and “dendron” refers to tree. Native to northern China.

Size: 35’ to 50’ tall. Older specimens may be much larger. They generally live 80 to 100 years.

Growth Rate: Medium

Foliage Description: Compound leaves. The plant is dioecious (the plants produce a male and female plant rather than a single plant with both male and female parts). Brilliant yellow fall color.
